Quartier Spinnweberei Uhingen

Das ca. 1,25 ha große Projektgebiet „Spinnweberei Uhingen“ soll als neues Quartier insbesondere auch die Qualitäten für Projekte der IBA’27 GmbH erfüllen. Das Areal liegt nördlicher der Uhinger Oberstadt und ist über die Achse Moltkestraße – Wilhelmstraße und eine neu errichtete Brücke über den Flusslauf der Fils stadträumlich gut verzahnt. Heute, nach Abriss der alten Spinnweberei und jeglicher Bebauung, ist die Nähe zum Stadtzentrum rund um die Stuttgarter Straße und das Uditorium sowie den Bahnhof Uhingen (nach Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof in ca. 30 Minuten – nach Ulm Hauptbahnhof in 60 Minuten) eine große Standortbegabung des Wettbewerbsgebietes.

Im Rahmen der strategischen Stadtentwicklungsplanung der Stadt Uhingen wurde das Projekt im Rahmen eines Vorprozesses geprüft und diskutiert. Im Ergebnis erfolgte die Antragstellung und daraufhin erfolgte die Aufnahme in das Netz der IBA'27-Vorhaben als ein Stadtquartier für zukunftsweisendes Wohnen und Arbeiten. Großen Anteil an der Projektinitiierung hat auch die Bevölkerung Uhingens, die sich in verschiedenen Beteiligungsformaten u.a. für ein Vorbildprojekt rund um Nachhaltigkeit und Klimaschutz und eine besondere Adressbildung eines erlebbaren öffentlichen „Raumes“ im Areal ausgesprochen hat.

Die Qualitätsansprüche der IBA’27 GmbH müssen auf der städtisch integrierten Fläche in besonderem Maße erfüllt werden. Hier, an diesem besonderen Ort an der Schnittstelle des schienengebundenen ÖPNV gilt es eine kompakte Verdichtung im Sinne des gesamtstädtischen Umgangs mit der Ressource Boden zu entwickeln. In Harmonisierung mit experimentellen und hochgradig nachhaltig-ökologischen Anforderungen an Städtebau-Freiraum-Gebäudemodul gilt es, ein Vorbildprojekt eines mittleren Quartiers von Morgen und Übermorgen auf den Weg zu bringen.

The project site for “Spinnweberei Uhingen” is approx.1.25 hectares in size and, as a new neighbourhood, has to meet the qualities of an IBA’27 Project very exactingly. The site is to the north of Uhingen’s ‘Oberstadt’ and is well connected from an urban planning perspective via the Moltkestraße – Wilhelmstraße axis and a new bridge over the Fils river. Now that the old spinning and weaving mill and any other buildings have been demolished, the proximity to the town centre around Stuttgarter Straße and the Uditorium as well as Uhingen station (approx. 30 minutes to Stuttgart main station; 60 minutes to Ulm main station) is a major benefit to the location of the competition site.

Within the framework of the strategic urban development planning by Uhingen municipal authorities, the project was examined and discussed as part of a preliminary process. This resulted in the application, and the project was then included in the network of IBA’27 Projects as an urban neighbourhood for innovative housing and working. Uhingen’s residents have also made a significant contribution to initiation of the project. They took part in public consultation in its various forms and expressed their support for a model project around sustainability and climate protection and the creation of a special place where the public ‘realm’ can be experienced on the site.

The quality standards of IBA’27 GmbH must be met to a very high level on the site, which is integrated in the town. Here in this special place beside public transport rail links, the aim is to develop compact densification in terms of the town’s overall approach to managing land as a resource. In harmony with experimental and high-level sustainability and ecological requirements for urban planning and free space building modules, the aim is to launch a model project for a mid-level urban neighbourhood for the short and long-term future.
